I've had footers at my posts in the past. After a while I dropped them in turn. One of my favourites was 'Before you change something, find out why it is how it is'.
So I know how to insert a footer, except I don't. I've forgotten and I can be bothered relearning. To coincide with my painted black fingernail, in support of the empowerment of women (ok, yes it does look pretty), I was going to use this footer, which I thought was spot on, 'Men fear women will laugh at them, women fear men will kill them'.
Saturday, the day before Mother's Day, there was a street march to protest against men committing violence against women.
So this panel has figures from 2024, in Hosier Lane in the city, a lane famous for murals/graffiti/scrawling/tagging, and visited by a huge numbers of tourists daily. The figure stated can be contested in some ways, but nevertheless, Australia has a serious problem. There are good policies, there are refuges, money is being spent but nothing seems stop the violence men commit. The mental abuse is not counted.
Your 'wokeness' is on display. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am sure that your black fingernail does look good. I am sorry that the mural was tagged.
I am sickened by this violence against women. It is everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI once witnessed an act of violence by a scrote against a female in broad daylight in a busy high street when we were visiting Grantham. He was dragging her along the pavement by her arm, then pushed her up against the wall, punched her once in the stomach then dragged her off down a side street. I was across the street and struck dumb with horror.
I wish I had been brave enough to intervene.
Sadly, a good man is hard to find. So many women find out the hard way.
ReplyDeleteSo true. And society has kept silent. The police only recently take marital violence seriously. And people still try to blame it on the victim, she must have provoked him, etc. Good men need to step up and challenge it. Including nasty talk about women. It's not okay to keep quiet.
ReplyDeleteYour reflection on the mural and the ongoing violence against women in Australia is striking, and I saw on TV that the repeated tagging of the memorial mural is itself a troubling reflection of the society we live in, where even acts of remembrance are disrespected.
ReplyDeleteI've been so blessed to never have received abusive or violent behavior. Loved ones and friends attest that any perpetrator would fear my wrath. lol I've spoken out in person upon seeing a child or animal mistreated; it's my mama bear instinct coming out, I suppose. But men suffer, as well, something I believe goes underreported. Take care, my dear.
ReplyDeleteLaughing is definitely the lesser offence.
ReplyDeleteIt's very very sad, but not just Australia, this is worldwide 😢😢
ReplyDeleteAs River said, it's worldwide.
ReplyDeleteEvery city needs a wall like that.
ReplyDeleteGood to see. Pity they didn't have mental abuse as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree Margaret. Mental abuse can in some ways be worse.
DeleteI can consider myself lucky that I have a great husband, but I know many women (and some men too) are not that fortunate. I don't know what makes some men be so aggressive, how were they educated at home? Does it pass from generation to generation? How sad that the mural has been tagged, a total disrespect too, not only to the artist but also for the cause. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals.
ReplyDelete'Men fear women will laugh at them, women fear men will kill them'.
ReplyDeleteThat says it all.
Women are mistreated everywhere, Andrew.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much violence against women. There have been multiple slayings of women ex partners lately in the Pnw. Some of have so horrific.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame those taggers went over the mural. It's very powerful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Andrew
